Tangerine by Edward Bloor

This book is about a boy named Paul who just moved from Texas to Tangerine County, Florida. Paul lives in a very strange community. There was a sinkhole that swallowed his school, muck fires burning underground, and lightning that strikes at the same place at the same time everyday. He wears glasses that make him look like a bug-eyed freak. Erik, his football-star brother, is a horrible person, but only Paul and his mother and father know it. Paul’s parents keep secrets from Paul about his glasses, Erik, and his life. Paul’s new teammates, from his soccer team, help him along the way. Paul has a very confusing life. The most exiting part the book was when the soccer team helps out at the groves during a big freeze. The best thing about this book is that it’s very descriptive. The worst part is that sometimes it drags on for a while. I think that people who like to read about people’s lives would like this book.
