My favorite character in the true story “We Beat the Streets” was Rameck Hunt. He was the most interesting character in the book, and he had the most problems to deal with out of any of the three friends- Sampson, Rameck, and George. Rameck was the only character that could find something funny in anything. Rameck seemed to be a magnet for trouble, and he had a big thing for adventures. Put everything together, and the book becomes instantly a little bit more interesting.

This book was pretty good, it had a good message, and it was a good story. I especially enjoyed reading about the part when Sampson had a rock dropped on his foot. He went to the hospital to get it checked out, and that was his earliest inspiration to become a doctor. I thought that it was terrible that Sampson was offered drugs by his other friends. I enjoyed watching the documentary, The Pact. It’s nice that what the doctors did influenced other people to succeed.

I thought this book was fantastic. It was a great influence on me but probably not just me, a lot of people. I will share with you what I thought of the book.
There was one character I followed throughout the story. This character was George. I followed him because he was the character that got in the least trouble, unlike Rameck and Sampson. They both got sentenced to juvenile detention center a couple of times but in the book they didn’t mention anything about George going to juvenile detention center. So all in all he was my favorite character because he was very inspiring.
There were a couple of turning points in this story. One was when Sampson went to juvenile he told himself never again to go to juvenile. Another was when Rameck almost killed that boy and the boy’s family dropped charges. Rameck was very thankful of that and promised himself to make a change. But the biggest turning point was when the boys were going to skip class and shoot hoops but then the principal came up to them and asked what they were doing and they said they were going to the Seton Hall meeting. If they hadn’t gone to that meeting they probably would not have been doctors and they might not have even gone to college. Those were some turning points in the book.
A message of this story would probably be that you can be anything you want; you just have to want to be it and will be willing to do this job, like the Three Doctors.

I thought this book was a great way to show you that you should always follow your dreams and do what you like. Sampson, Rameck, and George each show you that sometimes you go through hard times and situations, but if you believe in yourself and try, then you’ll be one step closer to pursuing your dream. At times Sampson, Rameck, and George would feel overwhelmed, but they could always count on each other to help figure things out and make it better. This shows you that the friends you pick will make a huge impact on your life. For these reasons I really enjoyed the book, and how it shows you what to do in hard situations to deal with.

We Beat the Streets
I give this book 2 and half stars out of a 4 star review .I would give the book this review because I couldn’t really connect to the story and the scenarios they were in.
Some of their scenarios that I would never, ever think of happening of me is one of my friends dieing in a car accident, like Sam.
My Favorites about the Book, We Beat the Streets
Favorite quote: “Sometimes you have to fall to succeed”. I really like this quote because if you flawless or you never lose you will have no experience or knowledge of your mistakes and how to change them.
Favorite character: Rameck because he doesn’t think before he acts and his mistakes are a good example of what not to do.
Anna D.
I think that the book We Beat the Street is very inspiring to everyone that reads it. This story is about three boys who had a dream and worked very hard for it to come true, and most likely at one point in someone’s life they will also have a dream that they would to come true. When you have a dream never give up and keep working for it. I would recommend this book to anyone old enough to read it because it was an awesome book and I think that even if you don’t like to read you will love this book. That is my review for the book We Beat The Street.

I thought We Beat the Street was interesting, inspiring, shocking, and very…well awesome. There is one thing about it that I didn’t like about this book. We Beat the Street had short chapters. The main idea, however, was really cool. It was that you can still be influenced by drugs and do great things. I thought We Beat The Streets was good in some ways but not good in others. We Beat The Streets was about three boys from Newark that each had different experiences that each had different experiences that led them to go to college and be successful doctors.
One of my favorite parts in the book is when they decided to make the pact and help each other become successful. Another one of my favorite parts was when Rameck sprayed the teacher with Silly String.
A way I didn’t like it was that it was kind of slow. Other then that I think it was a good book

I really enjoyed the book We Beat the Street. It was very interesting. I t was also amazing that George, Sampson, and Rameck could overcome the drugs and violence of the street. Also, they not only overcame the streets, but they grew up to have amazing jobs as doctors. I also thought that at some points in the story were George, Sampson, and Rameck got themselves into a lot of trouble, and that mad the book start to get very depressing. I also thought it was extremely harsh and sad when Rameck got that money from his grandmother and his mother spent it. That money was going to go towards his dream of acting. Besides that, his mother not only tricked him into giving her the money by telling him she needed it for the house, but then she used her own son’s money to by drugs. Even though sometimes the boys let the streets overcome them, they made it through.

I think the book “We Beat the Streets” is a very good book not just to read not just because it is just interesting or has good cliff hangers, which it does, but it tells you more about the failures of giving up and the successes of trying. I also think this book gives you a clear message that some things, like pranks, my be funny but if they are mean or senseless they can come with consequences. I a good example of this would be when Remeck or who ever sprayed the silly string in his teachers face. As it turned out his teacher was allergic to it. His consequence was that he was brought to court and almost went to jail. The thing that I don’t like about this book is that I think this story was based on a lot of luck. I also think that this story got boring after a while.
Jamie S.
I thought We Beat The Streets was a great book because it gave some great messages and funny incidents. My favorite character was Rameck Hunt because he took very big chances and challenges just to follow his dream. His dream was becoming a doctor. One funny incident in this book was when Rameck sprayed sill string all in his teachers face.
Matt C.
We beat the streets was a great book because it showed you that your dreams can come true if you put your mind to it. Rameck, George, and Sampson are all leader in a way because even though they lived in a place with violence and drugs they still hung together and passed that in their path to success. They didn’t let anything stop them to become a doctor. They all thought that they weren’t going to se each other after high school but they made a pact and made it to medical and dental school. One of them failed a test they pushed them to get better and pass it. We beat the streets was a very inspirational book to follow your dreams. That is why I like the book very scary incident for Sampson was when the concrete brick fell on his foot. I thought the best message in the story is not to become rich by selling drugs but to be rich by following your dreams. This is what I thought about We Beat The Streets.
Abigail C.
After finishing the book “We Beat the Streets” I really thought of what the three doctors were trying to get across to the people through their book. The message I got from reading their book is this. No matter where you live, how much money you have, or what kind of people are around you if you believe and work hard enough to your goal you will reach it. If they got through living on the streets I’m sure me and anyone else can overcome obstacles that come at us on our way to our goal too.
Daniel A.
My favorite character in We Beat the Street was Sampson Davis because he had played baseball and I love to play baseball. A message that I learned that you just don’t hit a person just because they don’t do as you say. I had one favorite incident was when they started to spray their teacher with silly string. I did not like the end of the book as much as the beginning because it was more exiting. Another one of my favorite incidents was when they were face to face with the dogs
Walker S.
I think the book We beat the Streets is a pretty good book. It sends a positive message about sticking to your dreams & what you believe in. Personally it is not a book I would look forward to reading again. At parts it did make you wonder what’s going on or what are they doing? Then at other parts it would get a little boring. A couple parts that stuck out to me were when the cops pulled one of them over for no reason. Also the time when one of them got in trouble for beating up a drug addict. I think that the book We beat the Streets was an o.k. book.
Amanda S.
I thought that the book was o.k. I liked how they had people who influenced them to become doctors. Like how George went to the dentists office and how Sampson broke his foot and was inspired by the doctor who treated him. One part of the book that stood out to me was when the cops pulled them over for no reason. I feel lucky that I don’t live in a town like that. Also I think that it was awesome that the 3 of them used each other as a support system to get through school. It is cool how they came from such a bad neighborhood and still all of them were able to make it as doctors. Overall I thought that this book was o.k.
Shelby R.
I thought that We Beat the Streets was a good book. I think it influenced me to set goals for myself and keep them no matter what other people think about it. My favorite character in this book was Dr. Sampson Davis. During this book the three doctors face many challenges. Also I like how in The Pact they e-mailed and let the boy Malique come to meet Bill Cosby with them.
Paige H.
We Beat the Street was a great book! I like how the boys went and had their bad life, but they new what they wanted to do. It was cool to be a doctor because they were one of the first people to graduate. It was nice that the boys stuck up for each other and help the get threw things. What I did like about the book was that they wanted to be rappers. I was looking forward for them to becoming doctors not rappers because I don’t think they would have a good education .I wanted they to have the dream they wanted.
They character I liked the most was Rameck. I like him a lot because he was the one that had the most problems.
Rachel T.
The character that I focused on the most was George. I thought he was the one that mostly wanted to be successful. Whenever I read the book it felt like all the characters were living in a nightmare. Every time George, Rameck, and Sampson left the house something bad would always happen. The book had a huge twist in it because they went from having absolutely no money to being successful doctors. Over all I thought the book was an interesting thing to read.
Evelyn F.
Personally I thought the book “We Beat the Streets” was not very good. It was good in a good way though, it shows you that drugs and getting into fights are not good to get into. Also it shows you that even if you get into trouble (when you really shouldn’t) that you can always fight for your dream and make things happen in your life, you could also do that without getting into fights and deal with drugs. My favorite part of the book was when the three made the group Ujama and they had a younger class of kids come in so they could talk to them about college and other stuff. He also told him that they were going to be doctors and when they got hurt doing something that they would be the ones talking care of them, and that the people taking care of you when you are hurt would have gone to college. That is my personal opinion about the book “We Beat the Streets.”
Kelli S.
I enjoyed the book We Beat the Streets. What I liked best about the book is the characters. George, Sampson, and Rameck are role models. Without their individual personalities they wouldn’t be so successful. The boys are a good example of following your dreams and you can achieve them. I like George because his story is inspiring. His story was that one day he went to the dentist and from there on he wanted to be a doctor. Sampson and Rameck are inspiring because of their want and devotion to becoming doctors. That is why I liked this book.
Erica W.
I have decided to write about the messages throughout the story because there was many. The one message that stuck in my head was when Rameck got into a street fight. Doing that could have caused him to not go to college and proceed in his dream. I am the type of person that is not afraid to stick up for myself. When I fight, I have no problem that I was wrong on my part. What really makes me red is when people don’t apologize. I take my anger out by yelling into a pillow. I myself know never to get into serious violence. To other kids that message will help them pull through in their dreams.
Alissa P.
The book We Beat the Streets I thought was good book. When I was reading it I was almost always hanging off them edge of my seat. The parts in the book that I liked the most were when the three boys were young.
Corey B.
We Beat the Street is a book that tells people like you that you don’t have to be like your surroundings like the doctors were. I really enjoyed the book for they dreamed and accomplished the impossible. The three doctors grew up together, learned together, and experienced together. My favorite character was Sampson who went to the dentists and realized how awesome it was and wanted to be one. I hope that this book changes the way people feel about their future and their career. I think they were, and are amazing. What do you want to be? They had a lot of mischief and trouble. The book it- self was fun to read because it was not to hard to read and it was not that long of a book too. Even though the book was good the documentary was not that good. I thought it was too long and not that interesting. That is what I have to say about the book We Beat the Streets and the documentary The Pact.
Adam C.
Well, now that “We Beat the Street” is over I think that it was a very interesting story about how Sampson, George, and Rameck. These three kids defeated all odds fighting for what they believed in and what they wanted for what they believed in to be come doctors and dentists from the street. One thing I really liked about the book was that it was so detailed that I could really imagine that I was there with them. Also I would like to say that they need to make a movie based on the book and not a Documentary. Overall “We Beat the Street” was a good book. Further more I liked the book.
Mike G.
I did not really like this book “We Beat the Street.” I didn’t like it because it is not the type of genre and theme of book I like. I would rather a fiction and action types of books. Some parts were good like when Sampson and his friends try to steal some drinks, and when Sampson is sent to prison for robbing a drug dealer and was charged with using a gun. The book was alright but I’d rather read a different book.
Nick L.
“We beat the street” had many inspirational moments in it .The very beginning wasn’t really inspiring as the rest of the book comparing it to breaking a foot with cement to getting accepted to college. Comparing what they said about their hometown to my hometown around my neighborhood I would say that my hometown is like heaven because their town sounds pretty violent. This book makes me want to try harder to get to college and overcome everything that could ruin my life especially if I want to be in the MLB.

I thought “We Beat the Streets” was a great book! It sent out very powerful messages that were inspiring for a lot of readers. Something that I really thought was a good message or quote in this book was: “He had been able to navigate that delicate road between what is right and what is real.” This shows how much the three doctors struggled and how they worked together to accomplish their dreams in the real world. Even though life was hard for each of the three boys living in Newark, they all found a way to dodge obstacles and the challenges that they faced. The doctors were three very inspirational people that showed the world that if you work hard you can accomplish anything
Meghan P.
The book We Beat the Street is a great book that will keep you on the edge of your seat. This book has enough action and violence but at the same time is very peaceful message. This book is about three friends make a friendship pact to get them through the hard times they are facing. They live in a ghetto neighborhood and it is very hard for them to resist drugs and violence and at the same time they must keep up with school. It is very hard for them but the boy’s efforts are great. In the end the boy’s troubles pay off and they accomplish their goals.
Michael C.
This was a great book! I enjoyed it a lot. One of the most shocking scenes for me was when some younger children came to visit the college. The three future doctors were talking to the kids and one of the ten year olds says I’m not going to college I am going to get rich by selling drugs on the street. This surprised me because he was only ten and planning on selling drugs on the street. This was so shocking I had to read it over again. That wasn’t the only thing like this in the book that shocked me the other thing was when one of the mothers used the money for paying the bills on drugs. When her son got money to take pictures he needed. He gave it to her so that his mother could pay the bill so his family could have the electricity turned back on. She didn’t use the money on their bills she bought more drugs for herself. This book wasn’t something that I would have picked out but I’m glad I did get the chance to read it. It shows how these three doctors overcame obstacles and became successful and reached their goals of becoming doctors.
Emma G.
The book We Beat the Streets was a great book because it shows you that you can achieve what seems to be the impossible for the three boys when they were young.
My favorite quote in this book was “sometimes you have to fail in order to succeed”
Another good quote that was “find others with goals like yours and stick with them”
- This quote is great advice.
“I don’t even know anyone who went to college”
- This is unbelievable because I know about five people who went to college.
Nicholas C.
We Beat the Street is about 3 boys Sampson, George and Remeck who are trying to accomplish their dreams of being doctors. Sampson. It all started one day when Sampson was in a local park in the ghetto. The place was full of trash and every thing was messed up. Sampson, his older brother and friends decided to clean it up. When Sampson was picking up a concrete slab it became too heavy and he dropped it on his foot. His foot soon later became swollen and bruised; he could hardly get his shoe of. His mother brought him to the hospital. Sampson found the x-rays really cool. From that day on he wanted to be a doctor. George. When George was little he had the privilege of going to the dentist. While his teeth were being examined he got to help. George always thought it was very cool and decided to become a dentist. Remeck. Remeck did not know what he wanted to be but with the encouragement and support he decided to become a doctor. All three men all became great doctor and idols.
Elizabeth H.
The book was great because it was true and it inspired me to do better in school. My favorite part of the story was when they were all cleaning up the park and Sampson dropped the boulder on his foot and he went to the hospital and got it checked out by the doctor and was fascinated how he was doing it. Then after that he went back to school and worked hard and became a doctor, witch inspired me a lot too and that is what made me love the book and do better in school.
Patrick C.
I think that the novel We Beat The Street is a very well written book. I say this because it shows a lot real life situations that can happen as a young adult going through high school or college, especially being located in a bad neighborhood. This book could be inspiring to someone who needs to read it. I give it a thumbs up.
Sean L.
We Beat the Streets was designed to teach kids about many life experiences. It showed kids how to make it through tough times and situations. The book taught people through life experiences that the characters went through. The experiences in the book were not things that many people go through but it tells people to be aware of those sorts of things around them and to be careful of the milder situations that they are influenced by. This book was really interesting and exciting so it was easy to pay attention most of the time which makes it a good choice to be read by a large amount of kids to read because everyone can relate to it. I really enjoyed reading, watching the movie, and writing about the book.
Anna C.
I think “We Beat The Street”was a good book.It was a book with scary moments and good cliffhangers. If it weren’t for One School, One Author I would have never read this book.It was a story of hardwork, determination, and effort towards a life beyond the murder and drug abuse of the streets. They got distracted at some points from their major goal by drugs, rapping immorality, and bad influences. The second half of this story is what everybody should strive for.
Tyler K.
After reading the book We Beat the Street I thought it was a good book and was exciting. I think it was exciting how Rameck, Gorge, and Sam had to over come getting in trouble and they became doctors and made a pact. I was cool reading about there lives and what they did to stay on the right track. I liked reading about how they got in fights and trouble and would get out of them safe without being stupid. I thought it was funny when they stole the cash when they were little and the guy got really mad when he saw them take it. In closing that was what I thought about reading the book We Beat the Street.
Chris J.
The first day their lives started too change I think was when they tried to steal from the corner store and the dogs’ barked at them. The day all the students “walked” from school was a risky but smart move, because they wanted change so they did what it took to get it. During everyone’s life they get off track like the rapping part of school but then we get back on track. When they got out of college how they work in the community where they grow up in is so great. All of them bad choices, but they are good people.
Joe C.
“It wasn’t like he wanted to get in trouble- it was just so easy to do so.”
This quote means a whole lot in this story, because of where the three boys live. George, Sampson, and Davis all grew up in a place, which was full of violence and trouble. So, going to college and staying out of trouble was hard and rare. The three boys got in trouble but always got past it and were giving second chances. They got past the drugs, violence, and crime and achieved more than most kids they group up with. This was made possible by their families, Carla the women who helped them through college and the pack they made. That is why this quote means so much and is so important to this story.
Aliza N.
I think its awful that Rameck was pulled over by police for committing the newest crime, driving while black. It was just luck that the police found a “deadly weapon”, a fishing knife the size of a pencil. That is the stupidest reason I’ve ever heard for going to jail. It’s good that after all that time Rameck’s lawyer didn’t show up when he finally got a lawyer they lost the evidence and the charges were lost.
Olivia C.
I liked the book We Beat The Street. I especially liked some of the quotes from it because I thought they made good sense and had a good meaning. Therefore, I’ll tell you some of the quotes and explain them. “Sometimes you have to fail in order to succeed.” This means that once you choose a major goal, you’re going to come across a bunch of little ones. Sometimes you’ll fail at some of the little things, but they are small enough to keep moving on. It shows that even if you fail at the small things you can still succeed at the major things. You need to give up things to achieve something and if it’s what you really want, you’re willing to. “No one had ever given them permission to dream so large or to visualize the possibility of success.” This means that where the boys grew up, adults never encourage them to dream or get anywhere in life. Those are some quotes from We Beat The Street that I liked.
Mary G.
We Beat the Street is an awesome book because it has action and is creepy.
They are cool but they can get into a lot of trouble. They have a lot of problems with
other people. Some people try to get them to buy drugs, smoke, and hurt people.
Matt S.
My favorite incident was with Rameck. They sold this guy drugs on school grounds and told him not to smoke it on school property. Then they found the guy smoking behind a dumpster on the school property. They beat the guy up really bad. The guy was on his knees suffering when they picked the guy up. I thought they were going to help him and let him go, but Rameck took out a knife and stabbed the guy in the leg. I liked that part because it was filled with action and it was unexpected. In closing that was my favorite incident in the book.
Matt K.
We Beat the Streets was a great book. It brought an awesome message to Silver Lake. I thought that all the characters seemed to be going through the same types of things. This made them able to connect with each other very well. I connected to this book more than I thought I would. It was just an amazing experience. It had so many dramatic and action scenes. Not only that but also funny and happy scenes. It’s so awesome they were able to turn their lives around and changed the way kids think today. They had so many influences and showed that we, as kids, don’t know how one small event can change our lives forever!
Laura P.
I liked the book because it was very interesting and helpful. I think a lot of kids and maybe even teenagers and young adults can really relate to this book. It was great that they stayed together and stuck to their dreams. They are very good influences. It really shows what could happen if you do or don’t stay on the right track. I think many kids who read this book will really think about what their going to do from now on. Rameck, George, and Sampson all showed what could really happen if you set your mind on something no matter where you come from, how you grew up, or what anyone else says.
Emily F.
The book We Beat the Streets was a good book. I like how the chapter titles went into the story and it made you question yourself on what is going to happen. One is “you don’t have to cut my foot off, do you?” The story influences you to try your hardest and never give up and try to go to college and do something with your future. At the end of the chapters it was cool to sort of have a conversation with the doctors and how they give you advice. I have never read a book that gave as much knowledge as this one. This book gives so much knowledge and it influences you about your future!
Vanessa B.
We Beat The Streets
We beat the street was a book where 3 boys overcame obstacles and became doctors. They got in a lot of trouble on the way. They made some bad choices that could have ruined everything they worked for. This book is about how a pact led 3 boys to success.
Matt E.
We Beat the Street was a very good book and it taught me two important lessons. The first lesson it taught me was to never give up no matter what happens. George, Rameck, and Sampson faced some tough challenges and in some situations, one of the boys ended up in jail. That did not stop them from continuing on with their dream and they graduated from college. Look at them now; they are all successful doctors. The other lesson I learned was to choose your friends wisely. If you choose friends that will support you and share your dreams, you will get further in life. But, if you chose friends that will encourage you to do the wrong thing, and put you down, and not help you with what you want to do, you will not have a good future ahead of you. We Beat the Street really showed the readers that the “3 doctors” really cared about each other, and they all helped each other through college and all of the hard times they experienced. They helped each other make it to where they are now. Without each others help, they might have not carried on their dream, and made it this far.
Amelia D.
I personally liked the scene when Rameck and his friends beat up the drug addict because, well he deserved it. I mean train said to the addict “I’ll sell you the crack as long as you don’t smoke it on school ground”. Then the addict says he won’t, and then he does anyway. So Rameck, Train, and the others beat up the addict. Then they all go to jail. So what I’m trying to say is that even if you had a good reason to beat someone up you shouldn’t unless you ready to go to jail.
Jaymz W.
I enjoyed the story We Beat the Streets. The story is about kids who live in the streets of Newark trying to not become another statistic. The kids face drugs, guns, robbery and even death. The story is showing that you can do any thing you put your mind to. My favorite parts of the story are when the 3 kids learn what they want to become because of a life changing event. The story is amazing because the stuff they face is incredible to face at such a young age. The part when the 12 year old boy gets in a car chase and hits a pole and dies is amazing. All in all I enjoyed We Beat the Streets.
The three doctors came from a very violent background and a drug filled childhood. There was also a lot of death where they grew up. For example kids were beating up druggies for smoking on school property after they told them not to. One time in the book Sampson, Rameck, and George were playing sponge ball which is like baseball with a sponge. A drug dealer took the bat and beat up another druggie mercilessly right in front of them. As you can see, the three doctors came from a very different background than you and me.
Matt B.
This book was amazing. It taught me so many things that I know I will use later on in life. One lesson was to follow your dreams. These men made a pact to follow their dreams and never stop. They came from a city with the highest crime rate in the United States and now made a better life for themselves. Also in this book you got to see the affects of drugs robbery and crime. Sampson’s mom was a crack addict and it was tearing their family apart. They had no money because the mom used it to buy drugs so all there food was going bad and they were going to loose their house. But these men came above it all and did well in school and now are making money for themselves and are doing well in life. They said most of their childhood friends are either in jail or dead. They may have done some bad things but we all have and they know they have and they have learned from their mistakes. These three brave men helped me get through rough times. When I feel I can’t do something I say, “ What would the three doctors say to me”?It gives me the need to follow through. I think this because what if Sampson said “I can’t do this, I give up” he wouldn’t be where he was today. These men have opened the eyes of many children across the world and I’m one of them. That is the book “We Beat the Street”

WELL, I THINK THAT THIS BOOK WAS PRETTY GOOD. IT DELIVERED GOOD MESSAGES LIKE…
1. DON’T EVER GIVE UP!!!
2. BELIEVE IN YOUR FRIENDS AND YOUR TEACHERS
3. YOU JUST HAVE TO STAY TOGETHER WITH THE PEOPLE WHO WERE ALWAYS THERE AND YOU’LL MAKE IT…HOPEFULLY
I THOUGHT ALL THE CHARACTERS IN THE STORY WERE IMPORTANT AND INSPIRING, AND IN THEIR OWN WAYS MADE THE STORY MORE INTERESTING. MY FAVORITE CHARACTERS WERE…
1. GEORGE JENKINS…HE SEEMED TO BE THE MOST BEHAVED AND THE ONE WHO WOULD BE EASY TO LOOK UP TO…HE NEVER WENT TO ANY JUVENILE CAMPS OR JAIL…HE NEVER BEAT UP CRACKHEADS OR STOLE FOOD AND CLEANING PROGUCTS…WAY TO GO GEORGE!!!
2. RAZOR… HE WASN’T IN THE STORY VERY LONG, BUT HE WAS SOMEHOW DIFFERENT FROM THE OTHER CHARACTERS…HE WAS MORE OF AN EXAMPLE FOR THEM TO LIVE BY…I DON’T THINK THAT HE MEANT TO DIE OR STEAL A CAR OR BE A BAD KID…THINGS JUST CHANGE…
3. CARLA DICKSON…I THINK CARLA HAD THE BIGGEST IMPACT ON THE STORY. SHE WAS POWERFUL AND HELPFUL, AND WAS KIND OF CARING…EVEN THOUGH SHE WAS EXXXXXXXXXXXXTEMELY STRICT.
THERE WERE A LOT OF SAD SCENES IN THE BOOK THAT SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN TO ANYONE...THEY REALLY STUNK TO READ ABOUT…
1. RAZOR’S DEATH…HE WAS A COOL KID AND HE WAS JUST BEING PULLED IN BY CRIME AND CRUELTY…TOO BAD HE WAS TOO STUPID TO TRY TO SAVE THE SITUATION…SORRY
2. RAMEK’S STAY IN JAIL…WOW!!!THAT SOUNDED MISERSABLE…IF I EVER WENT TO JAIL(I HOPE I DON’T) I’D BE BEGGING TO BE RELEASED!!!!
SO I THINK THAT YOU SHOULD READ” WE BEAT THE STEETS “!

The book We Beat the Streets is influential with a meaning. The meaning is you can do anything you want to do if you believe you can. It influences people to believe in themselves to get a good education. This was good and it keeps readers guessing what will happen next. The chapter titles where what kept readers guessing the most. One title was ‘You don’t have to cut my foot off. Do you?’ and another title was ‘The boy’s neck bent in an odd way, and his body felt limp”. Don’t those two tiles keep you guessing? This book might really influence people who grow up in cities like Newark, New Jersey because the Three Doctors came from an area in Newark where people didn’t have a lot of money or hope, but they went to college and are doctors. If they can do why can’t anyone else do it?

We Beat the Streets was a very good book. I think, it was good because the book was really inspiriting, it was inspiring because they lived in a bad and poor town but they still managed to get good grades and graduated high school, college and now they are called the three doctors. I also liked it because the town was very bad so even though the 3 doctors were good in school when they were kids they also still got in a lot of trouble, like when in Chapter 13 “If he dies you get charged for attempted murder” Rameck sells crack to a crack head and tells the crack head not to smoke it near the little kids but the crack head does anyway and so Rameck and his friends beat him up and the Rameck find a knife in the crack heads pocket and then stabbed him in the leg and then he lies to a police good and I liked it a lot!

I liked reading the story “We Beat the Streets” I find it amazing that these 3 kids would grow up to be successful doctors they had to get through drug dealers, and the worst terrible poor neighborhood. Now today they are doctors with nice homes, nice cars and plenty of money to help their families. It is truly amazing how far they have come.

I thought that We Beat the Street was an okay book. It sent a message to so many kids about all the violence and drugs that need to be fixed. One time one characters stabbed a man when he was smoking something illegal by an elementary school. It wasn’t right for the man to be smoking around a school of little kids giving them a bad influence. Yet it wasn’t right for that character to stab that man. All in all, the book We Beat the Street was a pretty good book with a powerful message.

I think this book is about “making it out of the streets or anywhere you are that people feel others won’t make it out of including themselves, if you put your mind to it and if you try hard enough you will succeed”. This book was amazing, I loved how these 3 guys weren’t straight up thugs, and how they didn’t want to do what everyone else was doing .They wanted to become better people in a world we now call “the Hood”. These three men wanted to become the kind of people that helped others get well, and the hood just brought people down, but not for these guys they survived and now look were they are, they are “The 3 Doctors” of Newark, New Jersey. They proved that anyone can do what they want to do in life.
This book really influenced me to try hard and never give up on what it is I want to do in life. This book really made me open my eyes and see that people have it worse than others do in this world. This book also made me think twice before I act in a situation being something that is really bad and do the right thing. For example make a good chose not a bad chose in life like deciding what friends you have and making chooses on your future don’t mess it up.

The incidents in this We Beat the Street were pretty cool. My favorite one was when Sampson Davis got his foot crushed by a piece of concrete. I liked this most because when he went to the doctor’s office, he asked the doctor if he would have to cut off his foot. I know Sampson didn’t know this at the time, but the doctor would only put a cast on his foot. Another incident I liked was when Sampson and his friends stole icees from Jack’s store. I thought that was a little extreme to be doing when you are eight years old even though his neighborhood pressures him to do so. The last incident that I liked wasn’t something that involved getting into trouble. This was when George had a dentist appointment. When George was there I thought it was funny that he asked,” Are you like Godzilla or King Kong?” I think it is amazing how just walking into a dental clinic made George want to be a dentist. That always amazed me. These are three incidents I liked in the story We Beat the Street.

We Beat the Streets was a great and inspiring novel. Through all the difficulties, the three boys made it despite some of their individual friends who weren’t always giving them positive peer pressure. Their names were Rameck Hunt, Sampson Davis, and George Jenkins. By skipping one day’s class, the boys were actually going to class. They wound up at a Seton Hall meeting for high school graduates who wanted to go to college. From then on, they learned that the streets were hard and the needed to defeat them, and the crime they hold. They kept their goals in their view, but slipped on them a couple times. If college is a big deal for a kid growing up in Newark, then there are three big deals living there today. Sampson, George, and Rameck are important and should be remembered because they got through high school, college, and plenty more years of going to school. Through their success, the three doctors learned that nothing can stop them, as well as you. They beat the streets through many difficulties, and are now living in Newark as doctors. Read this book if you want inspiration. I know I got at least a little!

This book We Beat the Street is about three friends named Sam, George, and Rameck who grew up in the town of Newark. Theses friends had a dream they all wanted to become doctors. They graduated school and became doctors their friendship pact lead to their success. Theses three doctors sent out powerful messages to the readers like never give up and keep on trying. They also gave advice like “don’t do drugs”. Those three doctors succeeded when they followed their dream so that helped me realized if I chased my dream and I wanted it bad enough that I could succeed in it to. This book might have inspired many kids to chase their dreams too!

I think the three men were trying to make a statement to every reader.
They were mainly trying to tell the reader that you shouldn’t give up on your goals, keep trying, and practice them till you achieve those goals .After you achieve those goals you set new goals and keep trying. The three doctors were trying to tell the readers more messages too. One of them was to think or say before you act because one little word or wrong thing you do can change everything. They also said not to give in to peer pressure if what they are doing or telling what to do is bad. They also say it is good to always make new friends and make a friendship and stick together and help a friend that is down or a friend that is always there for them.

I thought that this was a great book. One thing that influenced me the most was when Sampson was in tenth grade and he turned down the wooly with the cocaine and the tobacco. I also liked George as a character because he never really minded people thinking of him as the smart kid. He would just do what was best for him to keep his grades up. Another thing that I thought put an influence on me was when the drug dealer took Sampson’s bat and he beat that man in the stairwell that could not pay for his drugs. That showed me the dangers of doing drugs and why they say how drugs are nothing but trouble. I also thought that when Rameck stabbed the crack head for smoking on the school grounds was bad, but should have taught the man a lesson because what would happen if I was in pre-school or something and I found drugs lying all over the place. I wouldn’t know any better and I would just be curious and pick them up and maybe even play with them or throw them or something. I would be clueless.

When Rameck dropped the boy on his head I couldn’t believe it. At that moment I thought Rameck’s whole career and life that he had worked so hard for was over. When the police came to talk to him he thought “What have I done”. He didn’t want all of this excitement that he had to be over. He loved his new college. But this one little incident could change it all. When Rameck talked to his family and the police he wanted it to just be a bad dream but it wasn’t. YES! “I am so lucky” he would say because the family of the boy decided to drop the charges. He was so thankful for the family and he knew that he was never going to do that stupid of a thing ever in his life. After that he started a whole new chapter of his life. That incident gave him hope and faith because he knew if he get through that he get through anything. That was definitely a life changing experience that helped Rameck “Beat the Street”.

This book explains that life can change and so can people. If you’re in a bad situation don’t give up, because things can get better and that exactly what happened to Rameck, Sampson, and George. They started out as young boys who were always getting in trouble, but when they met each other and made a friendship pact, they definitely turned their lives around! My favorite character was George because he got into trouble the least and he was a very nice student. He remained this way all the way through college, and even when he didn’t pass an exam the first time, he had determination. With the help of his friends he ended up passing the second state board medical exam. Just like one of the chapters said, “Sometimes you Gotta Fail In Order to Succeed.” Even though George was my favorite, I thought all of the doctors were very important too. To me, this book represents loyalty, friendship, and knowledge and that is what makes this book. We Beat the Street can have an influence on everyone!!

My favorite character in We Beat the Street is Dr. Sampson Davis. He’s my favorite because he seems to have gotten through the most struggles. When he wanted to give up going to medical school, he didn’t. I also admire the fact that he went back to work at the place that had first inspired him. Since he was the one to give up, or wanted to at least, to me he gives out the strongest message. And that message is, to basically stick with your gut and not to give up just because things start to get hard. But, overall the pact was a very good influence. Staying together in a friendship like that is hard to do, but unbelievably valuable; and the three doctors proved that. That is what I think of We Beat The Street.

One of the most interesting was chapter 13. It was when Rameck and his friends sitting around the school when a guy comes up and asks for drugs. They gave him some but said he could not smoke it there. But he did so they got into a fight and all most killed him. Rameck got sent to jail.

I think We Beat The Street was an awesome book. It is so amazing how
The three doctors(Sam, George, and Rameck.) Followed their dreams of being doctors and got to their goal. It sort of inspires me because when I’m older I want to be a famous chef, which my mom tells me it’s not going to be easy. I know that because cooking is not easy! I also think this book might inspire other kids to because it shows that you can do anything if you work for it. Like I just said, if you work hard, you can get to where you want to be.

I thought this book was pretty good. The level was my age and it totally made sense. It repeated itself sometimes, but it got to the point. I really liked how it talked about daily life struggles and how to overcome the fear, worry and stress of school. Especially the thought of eight years in college!
There was a problem with some points of the book where it was some what racist. Not that I am, but they got mad when their school talked about white people and the history of them. Also, they only spoke to crowds of people that were black. Probably because they were in the areas where this problem was more common. I don’t know it just kind of bothers me that there is still a trace of racism in our society. Still, the doctors and their book supported students everywhere and tells us that doing good in school will make you successful and it doesn’t matter if you’re cool or not.

I think the book “We Beat the Street” was a good influence on children of all ages. The book helps children realize what are some good influences on life and some bad influences on life. For example some good influences would to be to never give up, stay close to your friends, and to get into college. Some bad influences would be to mug a druggie, and also to be arrested. Over all I believe that the book “We Beat the Street” is a book that all children can learn from.

I think We Beat the Streets was a very informative book. It was also interesting. My favorite character was Rameck Hunt. He was my favorite characters because he always got into trouble. He was also in very dangerous situations. My favorite part of the book was when Rameck and his other friends tried to rob a crack head. Rameck and his friends were caught and one of his friends had a gun on him. Rameck was sent to a juvenile detention center since he wasn’t 18 at the time. I also liked Rameck because he wouldn’t give up on his dream to become a doctor. I liked the book because they all stayed together to reach there dreams.

“We Beat the Street” was a great book. I think the message it brought was a strong, powerful one. It made me want to set goals for myself and to really succeed in life. I think that it also will make teens that are troubled think about straightening out their lives. In the chapter “We’re gonna jack us some icee’s from Jack’s” Remeck was only eight years old. Stealing wasn’t wrong or something bad to him because he grew up around people who were stealing. This reminded me of a boy I know who does, or did, drugs. I asked him why he did those harmful things one day and he replied, “In your eyes it’s a bad thing to do drugs, but I’ve grown up to parents who did it, siblings that did it, and friends that did it, so to me there’s nothing wrong.” I really hoped that boy would be okay and that he would be able to relate to “We Beat the Street.” After he read this book he said it was life changing and he’s been drug free for a while now. It just goes to show what an impact the three doctors have on people and that’s mainly why I enjoyed this book.

The book “We Beat the Street” was a good book! I like how the three doctors made a lot of mistakes in there life and even went to jail and still didn’t get put down, followed there dreams and became doctors. I really learned a lot form this book and I think if more kids read this more can get encouraged that they can do anything if they really put there minds to it. A part I didn’t like in the book was when the police chased Rameck in the car for no reason. Also I didn’t like the scene when Sampson and his friends beat up the homeless guy because he didn’t leave the parking lot. Out of all the characters I don’t really have a favorite; I think they all are great. But overall I thought this was a great book and I learned a lot from it.

To me “We Beat the Street” was an inspirational book that shows if you set your mind to something you can achieve it with hard work, determination, and people to support you along the way. I think anyone can relate to this book. You don’t need to be someone searching for a job as a doctor, or someone trying to come off the brutal streets of New Jersey, but just a person who knows they want to be something in life. When I read this book and came across the line by George Jenkins, “I think we can all do this, the three of us together!” This line to me spoke volumes because it’s true! Like I said before, just find someone who can support you and you’re almost there to achieving a dream that some believe….. is impossible.

We beat the streets was probable my favorite book I’ve ever read. I liked it because the stuff they did was similar to stuff they do in the real world. My favorite scene was when they beat up the drug dealer in the alley and got caught because it kept you wondering. I like action and that was definitely and action book.
Steven C.
I think that this story is one of the best stories I have ever read.
Most of the books I read do not have messages that this book has. In my opinion,
the best quote the book has is “We Beat the Street.” I also had a lot to say when I was
filling out my entries. This story is a little bit sad and a little bit happy at the same time.
Truly, I think that kids of all ages should read this book. This book influenced me like no other has. After I read the book I started trying harder in school, and striving for good grades.
Jon D.
Over all, I felt as though the book was okay. But, I felt shocked and sort of strange when
we started to get deep into the three doctors lives. I mean, why, oh why would you write a book about your personal life? Come on people, have you ever heard about stalkers, muggers, or even gangsters? Well, of course they have. So I ask this, why, knowing about people, crazy deranged people that is, who will hurt them because they knew were they lived, what their jobs were, and other personal information, write a book all about their lives?! Other than the whole personal dilemma I found the book to be somewhat interesting.
Marissa C.
I really liked “ We Beat the Street” it was a really interesting read for me. One of my favorite parts would have to be when all of them made it into the college they applied for. I also think they were a great Pact with all there positive peer pressure towards each other. My favorite character was most definitely Rameck Hunt because he was just so outgoing and all of that good stuff. But overall the whole story was truly an awesome read!
Dylan S.
My favorite character is Rameck Hunt. He was the most wild and got into more trouble than George or Sampson did. The one time that stood out in my mind was when Rameck stabbed the crack head. Although he had many struggles, he also had many accomplishments. The biggest accomplishment he had was definitely becoming a doctor. Although there were three main characters, Rameck was my favorite.
Andrew L.
This was a great book! I like it because it told me what not to do when it comes down to bad things, like drugs. It tells how three doctors made it through tough streets with only little trouble. Yes they made some bad choices but they grew up with other people who were bad influences. One time Sampson went to jail for robbing drug dealers. Even though he went to jail it was not the worst he could have do, he could have done drugs and got himself into more trouble. That is why I love this book.
Erika L.
Overall, I really liked this book. It showed you how choosing the right path would get you somewhere in life and that place wasn’t jail. I liked how Sampson, George, and Rameck showed us that those difficulties and obstacles are there, and sooner or later you could face them. I was able to relate to this book because my cousins used to live in a place where you had to watch your back every where you went. I think this book showed us all what the right path truly is. My favorite character was Sampson. I liked him because he always went for his dream and he never let anything or anyone get in his way. Being a doctor is tough job and Sampson realized that, he tried his best and his best was good enough.
Kylie M.
This is my favorite part about “We Beat the Streets”. My favorite part is when Rameck and his friends bet up the crack head. I think it was really exciting and a little scary at the same time even though he got it BIG trouble! That was my favorite part about the book.
