Ruby's abusive mother mysteriously vanishes one morning forcing Ruby to live on her own for a number of weeks. Ruby thought it was great until someone found out and reported her to the police. Before she knew it she was living with her sister, Cora, and her husband, Jamie, who she had never met before. Jamie was very welcoming to Ruby, but her sister was not. Ruby still held a grudge with her for leaving for collage and never keeping intouch. They used to be so close that Cora would protect Ruby from their abusive mother. Now Ruby has to enter a new life style with a new school, family, friends, and job. Ruby is trying to figure out the meaning of family while listing to the popular boy next door who seems to really understand her. They help eachother with their family troubles.I loved this book! Any Sarah Dessen book is sure to be a thrill and not disappointing. You can really relate all of the characters to your own life even if you are completely different from them.
